Giorgio de Chirico Exhibition

Giorgio de Chirico. Continuous Metaphysics,” in Conegliano at Palazzo Sarcinelli from October 11, 2023, to February 25, 2024, previews the celebrations of the centenary of Surrealism (1924-2024), a movement of which Giorgio de Chirico was unwittingly elected as the forerunner by its founder, André Breton. For him, as well as for other surrealists such as Max Ernst, René Magritte, Yves Tanguy, and Salvador Dalì, de Chirico’s early metaphysical painting (1910-1918) played a fundamental role in the birth and development of the movement from the early twenties onward. The exhibition, curated by Victoria Noel-Johnson, is organized by ARTIKA by Daniel Buso and Elena Zannoni, in collaboration with the Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation and the Municipality of Conegliano.

A total of 71 works by the artist will be on display, including a significant selection of his major themes, such as Faceless Mannequins and Troubadours, Italian Squares and Towers, “Ferrarese Interiors,” Trophies, Gladiators, Archaeologists, Lit and Extinguished Suns, and Mysterious Bathing Figures (from the Mythologie series of 1934).
